Article 27: All children have the right to food, clothing, a safe place to live and to have their basic needs met.
Day for Change is an event led by UNICEF which gives children the chance to learn about what life is like for children around the world with the aim of inspiring the children to take action and make a difference. This year was all about protecting children caught in emergencies, such as the recent Philippines typhoon. Pupil Voice started the day by leading the morning assembly and explaining the ongoing impact of Typhoon Haiyan. During the day we learnt all about life for children since the typhoon struck and investigated the differences between our wants and our needs. To raise money, we all took part in a 'uniform swap' where children could wear their own clothes and staff had to wear school uniform! In addition, the Pupil Voice reps made traditional sweets and snacks from the Philippines throughout the day which were then sold to raise extra funds. In the afternoon we all made Parol lanterns which are a symbol of hope for people in the Philippines. The day enabled us to better understand of what life would be like for children caught in emergencies and thanks to the fantastic generosity of the children and their families we raised over £400 to send to UNICEF!
