Governors

About the Governors

The Board of Governors is composed of parents, staff and members of the community, whose responsibility is to ensure the Federation provides an excellent all-round education for all our children.

Their main responsibilities are:

  • Ensuring the Federation’s clarity of vision, ethos, and strategic direction.
  • Holding leaders to account for the educational performance of the Federation and its pupils, and the performance management of the staff.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the two schools in the Federation and making sure their budget is well spent.

Governors serve a four-year term of office, the Chair and Vice-Chair are elected annually, and the Board is supported by an accredited clerk. Governors must observe a Code of Conduct, which embodies The Seven Principles of Public Life - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk), as defined in the Nolan report on Standards in Public Life.

Effective governance:

To ensure the governors can fulfil their roles effectively Foxhills Federation Governing Body has the following committees:

  • Curriculum, Learning and Attainment (CLA).
  • Finance and Resources.
  • Safeguarding.

All committees have Terms of Reference, and adopt Hampshire County Council’s Manual of Personnel Practice, and the Governors Good Practice Guide. The Board of Governors meets five times during the school year, in addition to termly meetings of the committees. Governors visit the school to ensure the strategic goals of the schools are being met, these visits afford an overview of safeguarding provision, children’s progress, and monitor the schools’ budgets. The unrestricted minutes of governors’ meetings are published here.

Governors are part of the schools’ management team, their effectiveness is considered at Ofsted inspections, and forms part of the Ofsted report.

We are committed to supporting the children, parents, and staff of our new federation and we will continue to do so throughout our term of office.

If you need to contact the governors, please leave a message with the office staff in either school, or email the Chair of Governors, Mrs Ann Arscott at: governors@foxhillsfederation.co.uk.
