Read A Round The World!
We are asking children to bring in photos of themselves reading a favourite or current book in far flung places or even closer to home. This is an opportunity for creative thinking and it is also a chance for children to share books they love and it can be on holiday, days out or simply relaxing in the back garden. Please hand in your photos to your class teacher. We have a dedicated display in our school library showing pupils and staff enjoying reading in their favourite places! We look forward to seeing Foxhills children reading around the world!
Summer Reading Challenge 2018
As many of you already know, the Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year in the summer holidays. Children can sign up at their local library, with a challenge to read six books of their choice, collecting stickers along the way.
The Summer Reading Challenge 2018 theme was Mischief Makers
, inspired by the much-loved children's title Beano, which celebrated its 80th anniversary.
Children explored a map of Beanotown to find the mysterious buried treasure and become ultimate mischief makers! Dennis, Gnasher and friends helped thousands of young readers solve clues and collect stickers, having lots of fun and adventures along the way!
We recommend getting involved with this challenge at your local library as an excellent way of encouraging your child to develop their enjoyment of books and reading; they will be able to sign up from mid-July. All children who completed the challenge, and brought in their certificate in September were congratulated in our Friday celebration assembly. We were especially proud to announce that Foxhills Junior School had the highest number of children who registered and completed the 2018 challenge at Totton Library!
Please sign up for the Reading Agency Winter Mini Challenge from 1st Dec
We would very much hope you enjoy being creative and having fun with these reading challenges and we look forward to seeing those exciting reading pictures throughout the year.
